On Tuesday February 7th,2018 the GSBC in partnership with the Suffolk County Department of Mental Health the Bayport Homemakers Association was presented with an educational forum on the Impact of Substance Abuse in our communities. The Bayport Homemakers Association with over 100 members and a waiting list to join were feeling empowered. These women continue to do so much for our communities. Most importantly they were educated on prevention and substance abuse. Their concern to be informed for the safety and wellbeing of their children and grandchildren is an inspiration to us all. We will be planning a 2nd. forum to train and educate the Homemakers on how to administer naloxolone. A film"entitled "Opioid, Heroin and Substance Abuse Here at Home" made possible by the NYS Department of Justice and coordinated through the Brookhaven Town's Youth Bureau showed first hand how this epidemic has effected families in Suffolk County.
